Anse
La Raye Falls
Everyone knows about the glorious Pitons but did you know that
just behind the village is some of the most beautiful scenery
on the island? Go through the village past the Hess School with
its large playground, into the countryside beyond. Go past the
thick carpets of sweet smelling ginger and anthirium lilies, the
children fishing in the river for small fish and crayfish and
on your right is a deep water pool in which you are allowed to
bathe.
A further 10 minutes inland takes you to a small green banana
shed, alongside which is a well tended trail. If you take a small
turn right down the hill, over the craggy rocks and step over
a series of river stones you will soon find yourself at the base
of the Anse La Raye waterfall. As this is the water intake for
the village bathing here is strictly prohibited, but the scenery
is stunning and well worth the short walk along the trail.
