Crowned King AGAIN!!

The early morning hours of Sunday, July 20th, saw Herb Black crowned once again, this time as St. Lucia’s Calypso Monarch Champion.  Performing at Mindo Philip Park in front of packed stands full of Anse-la-Raye residence and longtime supporters, Herb Black easily fended off the competition with his performances of What You Bring and Suzette, scoring 790 points to the second place total of 729 points.

Suzette continues to captivate St. Lucia, heard playing from what seems like every vehicle that passes through the streets of Anse-la-Raye.  It’s a tune that’s sure to continue in popularity and only build upon Herb Black’s already infamous legacy as one of St. Lucia’s finest lyricists.

On Wednesday, July 9th, Anse-la-Raye’s own Herb Black was crowned St. Lucia’s 2008 Groovy Soca Monarch Champion with his hit song, Suzette.  Bring the sold out Gaiety at Rodney Bay to its feet, Herb Black and a single solo dancer brought the crowd into a frenzy, with the chorus of his tune echoing through the concert hall long after he’d departed the stage.  A regular on the St. Lucia calypso sense for years, this was Herb Black’s first time crowned Champion.  Expressing his exuberance on Radio St. Lucia, Herb Black said he “felt it was long overdue.”  All of Anse-la-Raye certainly agrees.  Congratulations Herb Black!!
