Japanese Volunteers partner with the Anse-la-Raye Vendors Association

In May of 2008, representatives from the Japanese Overseas Cooperative Volunteers (JOCV) Program put on a culinary training program for members of the Anse-la-Raye Vendors Association.

Mr. Hiroaki Fukasawa, Ms. Emiko Saitou, Ms. Natsuki Hotta, senior JOCV officials and Mr. Toshihara Takafumi, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) fisheries expert, assisted over a dozen vendors along Anse-la-Raye’s Front Street.

The JOCV Volunteers prepared authentic Japanese dishes including kushi-yaki (seasfood kabobs), yakisoba (seafood chowmein) and fishball soup, passing along their culinary skills to the vendors in hopes of broadening their capabilities in preparing an increased variety of seafood dishes on Friday evenings.

The Anse-la-Raye Vendors Association sincerely thanks them for their continued assistance and support.
